Charlotte Maxeke Hospital

The Charlotte Maxeke Hospital (CMH) experienced a fire in April 2021. The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development (GDID) appointed Glad Africa Consulting (Glad) to undertake emergency works to bring the hospital up to standard in terms of the latest and relevant fire standards.

CMH is approximately 415 000 m2 and was completed in its final iteration in the late 1980’s.

The South African National Standard (SANS) 10400 Part T came into existence in 1990. While the hospital was compliant to a different frame of reference we had to bring the site to compliance aligned with SANS. We had achieved compliance and fire clearance for the radiation oncology. This portion is an annex to the main hospital.

We have achieved approved Fire rationale plans for the site. The upgrade and compliance is in process.
